Summary of the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO)
Our OBS Robotics Teams are back from WRO Switzerland! This Swiss National competition sees teams from all over the country meet and compete—the winning team will go to the World Robotics Olympiad in Thailand. OBS is represented by one Elementary Team (ages 8-12) and 2 Junior Teams (ages 13-16).
Our teams did exceptionally well considering that it was our first Robotics competition ever, the teams only were formed this year under Herr Speerli and they were up against teams who have been coding and practicing for years and years. The Elementary Team, Agustin and Ben, got 30pts, competing against 36 teams. They had only 3 months to practice and no prior coding knowledge—Well done!
The Junior Teams— made up of Marwin, Caspar, Lorenzo, Max and Julius—had a more difficult time against the other 45 teams they were up against; the Juniors faced much more difficult and advanced coding challenges. “Considering this was their first event, their spirits were high, and they are already planning for next year’s Swiss National WRO”, said Herr Speerli. “The team had a hard challenge ahead of them. Their programming coding and robotics skills are great. Their robotics knowledge is growing and growing, and I am so proud OBS students didn’t quit, although they didn’t win, they never gave up.”
