In my Textiles and Design Technology lessons, students work as independent designers and makers. Inspired by the TAB approach (Teaching for Artistic Behavior), I combine the requirements of Lehrplan 21 with as much freedom of choice as possible.
The learning space is set up as a structured studio with dedicated work zones for wood, textiles, paper, metal and more. Once students have been introduced to basic techniques and safety rules, they choose for themselves which materials, tools and project ideas they’d like to explore. This approach nurtures curiosity, problem-solving skills and genuine craftsmanship. Through hands-on experimentation, planning, creating and reflection, students build both technical skills and the creative confidence to bring their own ideas to life as functional, carefully crafted products.
