I have taught various subjects in many different types of schools. The one thing that has remained the same for me throughout my career as a teacher, no matter what exam the students were preparing for or the content of the curriculum, is the importance of building a relationship with the students. It is essential that they have a sense of belonging to a group in which everybody participates, is supported, inspired and valued.
Teachers and students as a team
I find that the best way to achieve this is to make them see that we all belong to a team – teachers and students, and I am working with them to help them reach their goals. OBS offers the perfect setting to do that, thanks to the size of the classes, the many ways the students are given a voice, get involved, take responsibility, or demonstrate their creativity at school, and finally, to the dedication of teachers and staff to the well-being of their students.
